You're welcome!
If I read you right, then Sygate firewall is 'not responding' at all times -
in which case perhaps you should first read this......
You may already have a virus/spyware hijack
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/averttools.asp
- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.
download AdAware SE Personal Edition from www.lavasoftusa.com, install,
update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from
your system.
report back with the results, and we'll see what we can see.

Post by davidThanks again i am now aware that it is a sygate file, and yes the message is
there whether sygate is active (on line) or if I halt it (off line) for
defragging or installing I kill sygate as it interferes with workings.
Yes, I included the query as I wondered if it were relevent to the initial
problem.
It's good to have the colours back for the photo's many thanks!!

Post by Noel PatonThis would seem to be part of the Sygate firewall -as Mart suggested.
When the computer is running normally, does the SMC still appear as 'not
responding in the Task Manager? If so, then you may need to
uninstall/reinstall the firewall.Since Symantec bought Sygate last year, it
appears that they have chopped off support for the consumer products at the
knees - and there are no easily searchable knowledgebases to which I can
refer (I've never used Sygate firewall, so have no idea how good the Help
section within it is)
You may want to repost a fresh query, with a more appropriate Subject
header
